The Inevitable Fall – Originally written for Scholomance with lyrics to go with it, this song is built around a 12 tone pattern, which is harmonized either diatonically, or with Whole-tone, clusters, etc. A lot of it was the idea, can I make tone rows still somewhat melodically pleasing like diatonic music, and dare I say classic metal? I explore some early theoretical ideas I had that you can mix up non-diatonic scales like whole tone, diminished, certain exotic scales, Slonimsky scales and chords, and twelve tone rows at will and it sounds great because none of these lead our ear to any expectation of resolution. However, I blended that idea, as stated above, with power chords, triads, and overlaid minor melodies to prove that your ear can hear parts which lead to no expectation of resolution, together with things that must resolve in the popular sense, simultaneously, and it works. Music of all compositional styles can work together so we mustn’t throw out the baby with the bath water unless we choose to, and can be more “modern” (which technically is still quite old) and Classical, and still create something new. This song also contains polyrhythm and polytonality aplenty, however, it comes across in a subtle way I think due to Vishal being such a wizard and putting some neo-Maiden style riffing into the fray.
